Green Unstopping
04:13
|

Lock up this old house
We have grown too heavy
And soon the ivy
Makes the walls unsteady
The walls will tumble
Cracks in the windows
Decomposing
The birds are moving in
All of the big roads
Are split down the middle
Sunk in the water
Of every river
Seas of plastic
Floating plasters
In every corner
Are our disasters
Lime leaf kisses
A wild uniform
The green of unstopping
The blueness of nothing
Secret freedom
Relentless growing
Concrete pavements
With small shoots showing

Bright Field
04:32
|

I have seen the sun break through
to illuminate a small field
for a while, and gone my way
and forgotten it. But that was the pearl
of great price, the one field that had
treasure in it. I realise now
that I must give all that I have
to possess it. Life is not hurrying
on to a receding future, nor hankering after
an imagined past. It is the turning
aside like Moses to the miracle
of the lit bush, to a brightness
that seemed as transitory as your youth
once, but is the eternity that awaits you

Edge of the Field
03:26
|

Take me to the edge of the field
Where the snow is settling
Walk me down the frosty path
Where we have often walked
My saddle’s sore my bridle’s bent
My blinkers are cracked and broken
Take me to the edge of the field
Where I will see the ocean
Take me to the edge of the field
Through the open window
Walk me down the corridors
Where we have often talked
My legs are tired of lying down
My eyes have not forgotten
Take me to the edge of the field
Where I will see the ocean
Take me to the edge of the sea
Between sand and water
Walk with me into the waves
Hopping over them like children
Take me to the edge of the sea
Between sand and water
Walk with me into the waves
But don’t follow after
